Before You Arrive

What to bring.

Come ready to train. Your player will need:

  • Football boots. Fitted and laced, appropriate for a grass surface.
  • Shin pads. Worn under socks, every session.
  • Long socks. Pulled up over the shin pads.
  • Labelled water bottle. Coaches will explain where to place it during the session.

On Trial Day

What to expect at the session.

Our coaches run drills designed to give every player a fair, clear chance to show their ability, in line with the Football Australia curriculum and the FNSW Standards and Benchmarking Framework we apply across the club.

Relationship with the ball

How a player dribbles, changes direction, controls the ball, and understands what to do with it once it's at their feet.

Taking on instruction

How players listen to the coach, take on what's asked of them, and put it into action during the drill.

Behaviour and focus

How a player behaves during coach discussions, and how they approach the session from the moment they arrive.

Arrival habits

Small things matter: shoelaces tied, coming over to greet the coaches, a handshake, and listening to instructions about kit and water bottles.

Interacting with others

How players engage with their teammates. We take shy or nervous players into account and look at each player as a whole.

Independence and love of the game

Whether a player is here because they want to play, learn, and grow, and whether they're likely to commit to the club long term.

Positions

We develop all-round players.

Our coaches aim to give every player the chance to play across multiple positions as part of their development. Where a player or parent asks about a specific position, our coaches weigh what that position requires against how many players we already have with a similar playing style in that age group.

2027 Squads

Spots are still open in every age group.

We already have players registered in these age groups, with space to sign more across the board.

Under 9 · 7-a-side 16 spots total — limited spots remain
Under 10 · 9-a-side 20 spots total — limited spots remain
Under 11 · 9-a-side 20 spots total — limited spots remain
Under 12 · 9-a-side 20 spots total — limited spots remain

All JDL teams play 2 games per weekend. Games are 50 minutes (25 minutes each half). The focus is on development, not winning. All CBFC coaches hold an FA C Licence.

A note for parents: trials are one part of a whole picture. Our coaches weigh technical ability, coachability, behaviour, and commitment together, not any single moment on the day.
